When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to fosinopril, hydrochlorothiazide, other ACE inhibitors like captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, Accupril®, Altace®, Lotensin®, Lotrel®, Monopril®, Prinivil®, Zestoretic®, or Zestril®, , or to sulfa drugs. You should not use this medicine if you are pregnant, if you have asthma, or if you are not able to urinate.

How to Use This Medicine:
Tablet

  • Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.
  • Drink extra fluids so you will urinate more often and help prevent kidney problems.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • There are many other drugs that interact with this medicine. Make sure your doctor knows all other medicines you are using.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are using pain or arthritis medicine, medicines to lower blood cholesterol or triglycerides. Tell your doctor if you are taking other diuretics ("water pills"), diabetes medicines, antacid medicines, lithium, steroids, insulin, or medicines for diabetes.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are breast feeding.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you have lupus, asthma, heart disease, liver disease, or kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you are on dialysis.
  • This medicine may make you bleed, bruise, or get infections more easily. Take precautions to prevent illness and injury. Wash your hands often.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are being treated for bee or wasp stings, or if you will soon be having any surgery.
  • This medicine may make you dizzy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
  • Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.
  • This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunscreen. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Changes in how much or how often you urinate.
  • Chest pain, fast or slow heartbeat.
  • Confusion, weakness, uneven heartbeat, shortness of breath, or numbness or tingling in your hands, feet, or lips.
  • Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting.
  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, or body ache.
  • Light-headedness, fainting.
  • Loss of movement of one side or any part of the body.
  • Severe stomach pain.
  • Yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Blurred vision or ringing in your ears.
  • Dizziness, tired feeling.
  • Headache.
  • Increased sweating.
  • Loss of interest in sex.
  • Mild skin rash or itching.
  • Muscle or joint pain, weight gain.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest.

If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor.
