How To Use an Overhead Trapeze

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

What is an overhead trapeze? An overhead trapeze is a triangle-shaped metal bar. It hangs from a metal frame, which is attached to the headboard and footboard of the bed. You may buy or rent an overhead trapeze device from a medical supply store.

Why do I need an overhead trapeze? You may need an overhead trapeze to help yourself move in bed if you are weak, injured, or cannot move easily. You can use the trapeze to lift yourself when you have a cast or other problems with your legs. Use the trapeze as directed.

How do I attach the overhead trapeze to the bed?

  • Ask someone to help hook the heavy frame to the bed. Follow the instructions that come with the frame.

  • Make sure all of the bolts on the frame are tight.

  • Hang the triangle-shaped trapeze from the metal bar with the chain and bolts.

  • Check the length of the chain to make sure you can reach the trapeze easily.
