Move victim to fresh air. Call 911 or emergency medical service. Give artificial respiration if victim is not breathing. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; give artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. In case of contact with substance, immediately flush skin or eyes with running water for at least 20 minutes. For minor skin contact, avoid spreading material on unaffected skin. Keep victim warm and quiet. Effects of exposure (inhalation, ingestion or skin contact) to substance may be delayed. Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s) involved and take precautions to protect themselves.
-RANGE OF TOXICITY
MINIMUM LETHAL EXPOSURE
ANTU is probably not toxic to man except in large amounts; the mean lethal dose by mouth is 4 grams/kilogram in monkeys and presumably similar in man (Brewer & Haggerty, 1958). The estimated MLD in man is 25 grams/70 kilogram; the LDLo is 588 mg/kg. Probable oral lethal dose (human) 0.5 to 5 grams per kilogram, or between 1 ounce and 1 pint (or pound) for a 150 kilogram person (Gosselin et al, 1984).
MAXIMUM TOLERATED EXPOSURE
The low toxicity is indicated by the results of a series of cases reported from France where chloralose was used alone or in combination with ANTU. Even where the dosage was large (in suicidal cases) all patients recovered. Classified as moderately toxic (LD50 = 50 to 500 mg/kg) (Goldfrank et al, 1981). Ingestion of 80 grams of a 30% bait in an adult, along with ethanol, resulted in prompt vomiting, dyspnea, and pulmonary rales, with complete recovery (Cimbal, 1952).

When heated, vapors may form explosive mixtures with air: indoors, outdoors and sewers explosion hazards. Those substances designated with a "P" may polymerize explosively when heated or involved in a fire. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways. Substance may be transported in a molten form.
No specific fire fighting procedures have been recommended for alpha-naphthyl thiourea. DISPOSAL METHODS At the time of this review, criteria for land treatment or burial (sanitary landfill) disposal parctices are subject ot significant revision. Prior to implementing land disposal of waste residues (including waste sludge), consult with environmental regulatory agencies for guidance on acceptable disposal practices (HSDB , 1990).
Large spills may be reclaimed, if that is not practical then dissolve in flammable solvent and atomize in combustion chamber (HSDB, 1985). Water spray may be used to reduce or knock down vapors (AAR, 1987).
Isolate and ventilate the area. Keep sources of fire away. Wear rubber or neoprene gloves and overshoes and an approved respirator. Get fire-fighting equipment ready. Contain any liquid spill around the edge and absorb with Zorb-All (R), soil, sweeping compound, sawdust, dry sand or similar material. Dispose of absorbed or dry material in disposable containers (Ford, 1989; EPA, 1975b).

- alpha-Naphthyl thiourea is not known to occur naturally. It has been used as a rodenticide, and been released to the environment as a result of this use (HSDB, 2003).
ENVIRONMENTAL FATE AND KINETICS
OTHER When released to land, alpha-Naphthyl thiourea will not adsorb strongly to soil and therefore may leach into groundwater. Its fate in soil is unknown (HSDB , 1990). The fate of alpha-Naphthyl thiourea released in surface water is unknown. There is a potential for photolysis in surface layers but no data could be found. Little of the chemical would be expected to adsorb to sediment (HSDB , 1990) If emitted into the air, alpha-Naphthyl thiourea will degrade by reaction photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals (estimated half-life 6 hours) (HSDB , 1990).
ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICITY
- alpha-Naphthyl thiourea was used as a rodenticide, but it has been largely replaced by other rodenticides since the 1940s. No USA production has been reported since 1953.
